Bidvest Wits' Phakamani Mahlambi set for Al-Ahly move after jetting out to Cairo
confirm that Bidvest Wits forward Phakamani Mahlambi jetted out to Cairo last night ahead of a proposed move to Al Ahly.
The 19-year-old was spotted at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday evening, with his destination confirmed to have been Egypt.
It has widely been reported that the Red Devils have made an offer to Wits for the teenage winger, who recently returned from an unsuccessful trial in Portugal.
The details of the deal have yet to be confirmed however, as efforts to get hold of the Clever Boys CEO Jose Ferreira have proven fruitless.
Reports in Egypt suggest Al Ahly tabled a $1.3-million (R16,7-million) offer for the Amajita star, with the intention of signing him on a five-year deal.
Mahlambi is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday before completing his move to the record eight-time CAF Champions League champions.
got through to the player's agent Glyn Binkin, who couldn't provide a comment until "things are finalised".
Egypt duo included in CAF World Cup qualifiers team of the round
Egypt internationals Mohamed Salah and Ahmed Hegazi have been included in CAF’s ‘best 11’ for matchday 4 in the African World Cup qualifiers.
Salah and Hegazi have both starred in the Pharaohs’ crucial 1-0 win over Uganda at Borg El-Arab stadium in the fourth round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The victory made Egypt top their World Cup qualifying group with nine points, two ahead of second-placed Uganda. Ghana sit third with five points and Congo languish at the bottom of the group with only one point.
With Salah scoring the only goal of the game, as well as being a threat like always, it was no surprise to see him included in CAF’s team of the round.
Mohamed Salah, who was named Liverpool’s Player of the Month for August, became Egypt’s 5th top scorer with 30 international goals after his solitary strike against Uganda.
On the other hand, Ahmed Hegazi was a rock in defence for the Egyptian side, as their hopes for the awaited qualification to the world cup have been boosted following the registered win.
The Pharaohs next game will be against Congo on Sunday, October 8 at Borg El-Arab stadium, Alexandria at 19:00 CLT, while Uganda will be up against Ghana on Saturday, October 7 at Mandela National Stadium, Kampala.
